Israeli artist Theo Tobiasse was born in Palestine in 1927 and brought to Paris as a child. He created his earliest drawings before World War II, and spent the crucial years of his youth hiding from the Nazis in a Paris apartment. After the war he became a successful commercial designer until 1961 when he decided to devote his full attention to painting. Theo Tobiasse’s style of painting is highly sophisticated. Tobiasse’s technique is a painterly blend of surrealism, expressionism, and modern primitivism. His themes are literary, often biblical, and at times erotic. Tobiasse paintings seem to transcend history – fusing dreams, mythologies, biblical stories and his own past – into rich metaphors for the world of the present.

Annie Proszynska (b.1930) who is a French born artist. Annie studied at the Ecole des Beaux Art Paris and Marseille and was a student of Hayter and Hallez. She has exhibited in France and her work is in the National Museum Biblitheque in Nice. This work is a limited edition (1/15) engraving titled Isis and was printed in early 1970’s. It is interestingly composed with some embossed designs.

The late Eugene Larkin was an artist who worked in the Twin Cities area for many years and needs little introduction. His works were shown, collected and appreciated by numerous galleries, museums and collectors throughout the United States.  Larkin was influential both as an artist and as a teacher.  He taught at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design between 1954 and 1969, where he was head of printmaking and Chairman of the Division of Fine Arts.  From 1969-1991 he was a professor in the Design Department at the University of Minnesota.  His last local exhibit was a retrospective at The University of Minnesota Weisman Museum in 2005.
